Common Tern - Fledgeling Gets Fed

]]>A young fledgeling common tern is fed a fish by it's parent, in an exchange lasting just a second or two. The parent doesn't even land, as it swoops in, passes the fish to the young bird, and returns to the water to look for more. The background may appear to be the sky, but it is in fact the lake, reflecting the amber light of sunset.

I was really taken by the red grouse. They're a fabulous looking creature, with a really rich tone to their colourings. I was fortunate to find some the morning after a recent dusting of snow, which provided the perfect backdrop.

Capercaillie are one of four species of grouse found in the Scottish Highlands.

These were extremely difficult conditions for photography, but as difficult as the snow makes things, it also adds something unique to the result.

]]>This is a Red Kite, from Powys, Wales, show just what huge birds they are.

I was blown away by the agility and control the red kites have in flight. They can switch from soaring and gliding on thermals, to diving, twisting, and turning in the blink of an eye.
They're a fantastic sight to behold, and an amazing experience to photograph.
